Mustache or Moustache! The fact is they are hot and trending right now! Mustaches have become a prop for everything from weddings to engagements, baby showers, retirement parties and more. Why Mustache you ask? me too! so I went on some research and have collected some information for you!
Mustaches in Relation to the Marriage Market
According to a study performed by Nigel Barber, results have shown a strong correlation between a good marriage market for women and an increased number of mustaches worn by the male population. .Barber suggests that this correlation may be due to the fact the men with mustaches are perceived to be more attractive, industrious, creative, masculine, dominant and mature by both men and women,as supported by the research conducted by Hellström and Tekle.Barber suggests that these perceived traits would influence a woman’s choice of husband as they would suggest a high reproductive and biological qualities, and a capacity to invest in children, so when males must compete heavily for marriage they are more likely to grow a mustache in an attempt to project these qualities. This theory is also supported by the correlation between beard fashion and women wearing long dresses, as shown by Robinson’s study, which then relates to the correlation between dress fashion and the marriage market, as shown in Barber’s 1999 study. Hmmm what do you think ? :)
Mustache is basically thought as a cool trend amongst hipsters. Like you I also thought it was just an ironic thing, a joke but what you are going to read right now is going to change the way you think about this prop!
“In 1965, the National Voting Rights Act passed outlawing discriminatory voting practices that had been responsible for the widespread disenfranchisement of black Americans in the U.S. Quietly attached to this bill was a little-known rider called the Federal Mustache Tax Amendment (FMTA), levying a 3 percent annual income tax against men with mustaches, and if a man’s spouse had a mustache, an additional 2 percent annual levy.”
““America no was a very much pretty place,” Dr. Snor would say in his broken English. “The government did know it. We could see it, and mustache growth was one solution to improving American good looks. Reduce ugliness.”

The Golden Age of Mustache! (oh yeah!)
The dawn of the 1970s marked a new age for the Mustached American community. Americans were accepting and embracing the power and strength of the mustache and including it in what is now known as the 1970s fashion “Triple Threat” – the mustache, the perm and the turtleneck.
President Gerald F. Ford, repealed the Federal Mustache Tax Amendment (FMTA) in 1976.
(Did you seriously know this?)
The turning point came in 1992, President Bill Clinton held high level talks with AMI in an effort to make sweeping, drastic changes to the FMTA.
2007 would see a record number of films starring leading men with mustaches
The Mustached American people — led by the American Mustache Institute — has come full circle: From William Howard Taft to Eric Holder.
The lower nose accoutrement has rightly become more than just a delicate tuft of fur served atop a man’s or woman’s lip, and transformed into a metaphor for all that is good, pure, and manly, along with things like fried chicken, pickup trucks, and chainsaws.”

Horseshoe
A full mustache with vertical extensions grown on the corners of the lips and down the sides of the mouth to the jawline, resembling an upside-down horseshoe. The whiskers grown along the sides of the mouth in the horseshoe are sometimes referred to as “pipes.” Not to be confused with the “fu manchu” which is grown long from the upper lip only– the sides remain shaven in the fu manchu.

Pencil
A thin, narrow, closely clipped mustache that outlines the upper lip. Pencil style mustaches can be trimmed in different manners (see below). Also sometimes called a “mouthbrow.”
Pyramidal
A general name for mustaches shaped narrow on top and wide on the bottom, like a pyramid. Pyramidal mustaches can be shaped in a variety of ways, as shown below.

Fingerstache
Fingerstache is a photo meme in which the participants draw mustaches on their index fingers and place the finger under the nose to give the effect of a comically removable mustache.
While most people simply draw the mustache (or moustache) on their fingers, this practice originated from the finger moustache tattoo; the invention of Columbus Ohio-based tattoo artist Giovani.

Giovani recounts how the idea of tattooing a mustache on a finger came to him in the following Youtube video with Midwesterngoodness. source
