This is such an age old question but so completely relevant in today's tough economic climate. It's simple! Budget, Budget, Budget AND by taking the advice of professionals whose mission in life is to help YOU have the Wedding you've always dreamed about at a price you can afford! I don't mean that you need to rush out and pay someone for service straight away but sage advice is often given freely and willingly by venues and suppliers who are always keen to help. We all know that money is a lot harder to come by and a lot harder to keep hold of than it once was and Brides and Grooms to be everywhere are rightly looking to get the very best value from their pound or dollar. It makes sense to spend some time on your research to try and tie everything in as neatly as possible before you go ahead and start to make firm bookings. Of course a Wedding Planner is the ideal person to help you with this and save your valuable time and money but I realize that not every couple either wants or can afford to hire someone. Myself and many colleagues will offer a complimentary phone consultation when we can advise, answer questions and get you on track.
Boring as it might seem, the key really is to know exactly what you can afford to spend, then decide how much you actually want to spend (the two amounts may be quite different) and create a Budget to work with. This will give you a framework within which to work with a guideline as to how much you can afford to spend on each element and supplier. Every couple's priorities are different and some will choose to spend more on food and beverage whilst others will focus on the quality of their photography for example. For some people flowers are just not important whilst for others beautiful and creative floral arrangements will provide their centerpieces and WOW! factor.
This should be the very first thing you work out as it will dictate how

which is more than you really wanted to pay but includes some items
that you would otherwise have to source as extras then this is a good
thing or you can reduce down in another area to balance the figures
back out.
I'm always surprised by the amount of couples who choose to ignore the
experience and advice of seasoned professionals - whether that be
florists, caterers, photographers, Wedding Planners or venues -
preferring to go ahead and do their own thing often with disappointing
or expensive consequences. Please don't let that be you. Always ask
questions and Listen, Listen, Listen before you finalize your master
