Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed And Here is the BLUE!

Author Mary Litzsinger

After designing weddings and events for almost 20 years now, I still find challenges in some areas.  I am excited this season as one of the most sought after colors this summer is Monaco Blue. Blue can be challenging.  Visually it is a very appealing color, but can present some challenges in design.  How many blue flowers are you aware of?  When working with blue, we have to get creative and really look at accents to make this color really work well.

Monaco Blue reflects the deep blue French Riviera that nestles up to Monaco.  Incorporating details of Monaco Blue will add a romantic celebration that can be joined together with neutral tones or add brighter summer tones. Here are a few examples.

Look on the bright side! Other Pantone colors can add a bright pop visually such as Pantone #13-0756 Lemon Zest .  I recommend looking at opposites on the color wheel when really working with colors like blue.  You can really have fun with this!

To keep the Blue accent going, pour Sapphire Martinis with a twist of lemon.  You can always look into other décor elements such as blue glassware, blue linens or table runners!

And here come the boys!

Pashminas for the guests!  We have used these often for clients who are hosting outside events where the evening chill might become a factor.  And the guests enjoy the option of selecting their own color!  For a wedding in Mexico a few years ago, all the guests received white pashminas – one placed on every other chair.  But, for the bride, we placed an aqua pashmina on her chair.  All the other décor was white, and as such, her chair really stood out.  It was a very fun look!

Here they are together on the beach!  The casino in the background is a Catalina icon and dates back to the 1920’s.  The term “casino” refers to the Italian definition which is gathering place.  While celebrations continue in this historic place; back in the day people use to come over to hear the sounds of big band music and dance the night way. This bride is a dancer by background.

The entire floor of the ballroom is actually a dance floor.  With the history of the casino, and the dance floor – it was the perfect location for this dance inspired wedding!

These were the low centerpieces.  Please note the use of specialty blue linens and a corresponding napkin.  We always incorporate  a metal into our events.  I find that for summer and spring weddings – platinum is a great option!

As you can see in this photo, we purposely kept all the flowers white.  Visually, this really helped the blue inspirations on the table top stand out!

Here is one of the taller centerpieces.  You can also see in the background, that we used lighting to accent the exterior of the space and this emphasized the use of blue as well!

And finally here is the blue candy bar!  One of the fun items to note here, is that one of the candy selections were blue bubble gum balls.  The clients found it to be really funny that anyone who took one of these had a blue mouth!  No sneaky sneaky here!
