{Guest Post} Romance via Candles

Candles make everything better. They provide mood lighting unlike anything else, creating warmth and ambiance, while at the same time, adding to tabletop décor.

Almost every one of our clients use candles in their reception décor, and we completely understand why!

We would like to share some candles used at some weddings we have worked on.

This adorable candle below was a DIY project by our bride, using moss and silk orchids, and battery operated tea light candles. She used a thin layer of floral/candle putty to adhere the décor to basic votive holders, and voila! Beautiful, garden themed, custom candles!

For some added bling to your wedding, add some strands of crystals to simple, high candle holders. The height of the candle holders really add dimension to the décor, and the strands of crystals add some formality and style. You don’t need too many of these pretty pieces, as just two on each table make a huge statement.

We notice that taper candles are rarely used for weddings, but we find them romantic and classic. It is also possible to add more tapers to tables than other candles, and they work wonders with low floral centerpieces.

Below we have a common approach to the use of candles by our clients. In this economy, creativity is key when it comes to weddings. We have so many clients that have alternating centerpieces: one floral, and one candle-lit. Candles are a less expensive option, and the varieties are endless. In the case below, the same crystal candelabra base was used for both the floral centerpieces and candle centerpieces. It was nice to see the beautiful candelabra showcased in two unique ways.

One of our favorite kinds of candles are floating candles. Below, they are used on the sweetheart table to frame the floral centerpiece. Although the florals on the table are beautiful, the table almost seemed bare without the candles!

Votive candles are used around the base of the centerpiece below to add a touch of elegance. Also, we did have a variety of table set-ups at this wedding, which is another way to add dimension to the ballroom.

Below is a beautiful floral arrangement on a silver candelabrum, with several floating candles on the table. It is a nice way to accentuate the centerpiece, and at the same time, have some décor at the base of the centerpiece.

This silver candelabrum is the same one for the floral centerpiece above. Again, the same candelabra were used in two different ways: one floral and one candle-lit. On this table, not only is the main centerpiece all candles, but there are floating candles on the table as well! The ribbon on all the candle holders on this table is the same, providing a cohesive feel to the entire design. This is another example of how not all centerpieces need to be floral. Also, the glow from the candles creates a unique look and ambiance.

Of course, candles can do so much as accessories to other parts of your wedding, such as the escort card table. You can use rows of candles (as shown below), or you can create a candle-lit arrangement in the center of the escort card table. This usually works great with floating candles, of varying heights.

Everyone loves a sweetheart table with orchids and tons of beautiful and simple candles.

Floating candles at different heights! For this wedding, they were lined up along the entire head table. This framed the entire table and showcased where the Mr. and Mrs. Were seated.

Another great place to use candles is the cake table. Normally, not much is on the table except the cake, champagne flutes, cake cutter/server, dessert plates and silverware. By adding candles, you really can make the cake table a visual part of your wedding. After all, this table is photographed when you cut the cake!

Our couple from the photo below used small candles on the guest book table, along with some framed photos of their engagement photo session. It is a nice touch to personalize the table and make it more intimate.

We hope that after seeing the effect of candles at the weddings above, you are inspired to incorporate them in your wedding. Get creative and make them unique! Candles are inexpensive and are mostly DIY projects to customize your wedding and make it cohesive with your overall theme.  And, let’s not forget the romance they add to anywhere they are used.

Lovely post. I agree totally – candles make everything better, but I am biased as I make bespoke candles and just love weddings! We hand pour candles and colour match for brides so they have just the colour they want. Then we make in their chosen shape and size – and will make tea lights to match. Your photos are beautiful and teh glow candles provide make everything extra warm and fuzzy! Long may brides continue to love them too.
