Understanding A Table Setting

As you design your wedding table scape you’ll need to know what is going to be on the table – so you know how much room that centerpiece needs to take up. It will also help with figuring out how many guests can actually sit at that table comfortably.

Below you will see a photo of what a correct formal table setting would look like from the top. For a wedding there are a few adjustments – the napkin is usually in the glass or on the plate to save that couple of inches per place setting. A wedding favor is also either placed next to the place card or on top of the plate for each guest.

Below is an informal setting, as you can see it takes up much less space. Place settings are also created based on what you are eating for dinner. An example would be seafood – if you are serving this then a seafood fork would be placed in-between the salad and dinner fork.

  1. Water: full body glass with short stem. Hold the glass by the stem to preserve its chill.
